Celebrating 35 Years of INFINITI

INFINITI didn't become the paradigm of automotive innovation overnight. It took years of cultivating an image and direction, powered by some of the most intelligent designers and engineers in the industry. That diligence has paid dividends because today, INFINITI is recognized for its performance, luxury, and technology. By identifying needs and predicting trends, INFINITI has always stayed ahead, inviting other manufacturers to try and keep up. The result: a company built on hunting down success and invention. This automaker has never just made more advanced cars, it's also built machines that are crafted around the driving experience. With its fair share of roots in the motorsport world, INFINITI understands what it takes to make a vehicle perform well, under any conditions.
Every Great Super Hero Has an Origin Story
It may seem like INFINITI has been around forever, but the brand is relatively young for the automotive industry. In the early 1980s, one of the biggest car makers in the world set its sights on the luxury market. Nissan didn’t just want to make luxury cars; it wanted to create an unparalleled luxury experience, elevating the vehicle as well as the relationship between the manufacturer and the consumer.
In 1985, Nissan formed the top-secret “Horizon Task Force.” The group sought to develop a totally new brand of luxury vehicles with a singular focus on this customer experience with both the purchase and the ownership process. The task force learned from non-automotive service industries, looking at examples like Federal Express, Four Seasons Hotels, and Nordstrom department stores. These influences inspired INFINITI’s approach to customer service, such as the inspiration the brand took from luxury hotels when designing its showrooms. INFINITI would call this customer-centric ethos the INFINITI Total Ownership Experience.
In an unprecedented investment, INFINITI built 51 dealerships in the US, opening their doors simultaneously on November 8, 1989. The brand initially offered just two models: the driver-oriented M30 performance luxury coupe and the ground-breaking Q45 performance luxury sedan. These models in combination with the revolutionary focus on the customer garnered the brand immediate acclaim. INFINITI won numerous awards, including taking the highest spot three times in the J.D. Power and Associates “Customer Service Index.”
The brand has since grown in leaps and bounds, never taking its eyes off of the horizon. INFINITI engineers focus on vehicles with rear- or all-wheel drive with uncompromising luxury and style. The customer-first ethos still remains strong, and that’s the reason the brand today is stronger than ever with more than 230 dealers in 15 countries worldwide.
INFINITI is still committed to changing the automotive industry, and it remains a leader in efficiency, performance, and luxury. Visit Client at 505 W.
